What kind of receiver is used on the .22/.410 Versa-Pak?
This a simple, striaght-forward question.
Recently there have been about three or four Versa-Pak .22LR barrels for sale on eBay, with the claim they can fitted to an SB2 receiver.
I hope someone will answer if the Versa-Pak Combo uses an SB1 receiver. Period.

Please read the Versa pack sticky in the NEF rimfire forum, lots of discussion on it. As I stated in your first post, H&R won't fit any barrels to the Versa pack frame, it appears to be an SB1 frame, but only they know for sure and there must be a reason why they won't fit other barrels to it.

It sounds as though Cougar wants to use the barrels elsewhere and NOT the frame.

Nope, read his first post on this topic down the page, the one that's locked.

I wanted and finally got an answer to my original question. Thanks!, by the way.
My interest is to make a Handi-Rifle as versatile as possible - usually. "Usually" most often depends on whatever crazy idea I might be considering at a particular moment, but also staying within a practical budget.
The Versa-Pak .22LR barrels are off-set so the firing pin on an SB1 (or SB2) strikes the .22LR on its rim, not in the middle that would do no good! The Sportster (rimfire receiver) has an offset firing pin for those [Sportster] barrels.
When shopping on eBay one needs to use a little intelligence about costs, prices, shipping, postage, etc. But many e-"buyers" obviously get carried away bidding online or trying to out-bid one another. Whatever.
If I could pick up a .22LR Versa-Pak barrel to have to add to my Survivor's capability and versatility, I'd be willing to pay up to $75 to get one and have it fitted (not by NEF). My plan is to have one with open sights, so 50-60-75yd accuracy is what I'm looking for -depending on my skill and the "correct" .22 round that it shoots well.
I realize some folks have Handi-Rifles because they're cheap (compared to a Thompson/Center or Ruger No.1). Others simply seem to enjoy "tinkering" with them.
I like the versatility of the switch-barrel single-shots, but also their very affordable price. Plus it would not be a huge $$$ loss if one was destroyed or stolen in a Katrina scenario or survival situation. And for truck/camp gun, or "SHTF" gun - my Survivor is indeed "versatile!" (with .223R, .30/06, .45/70 and 12ga abilities! Plus an adapter from McAce Sports will permit using .308W).

Those ebay barrels have been on there for several months at least. The guy must be buying Versa packs from Walmart for $126 and selling both barrel and the frame parts for a lot more than that as many as he's sold, the least expensive one I've seen went for less than $70, but most go for $90 to $120 or so, he's making quite a profit on them.

If you say so. I've only noticed them recently - but I see many more chamberings and barrels too. If one individual has got himself such a racket, then he's indeed reaping some bucks. $125-130 for a Versa-Pak is what GunBroker lists them for.
Many of the gun shows I attend have things like the Versa-Pak for sale, not that I see them every time altho I do see NEF's and H&R's. One of my first exposures to the Handi-Rifle concept was a .45C/.410 Survivor I picked up at a gunshow. When it didn't pattern worth a darn, it was easy to sell at the next show. :)

Not because I say so, because it's true, look at the date on the ebay item I posted in the link below ::), I believe they started in February or March. I've had ebay send me listings for every NEF H&R auction item for the last 3 years with their favorites search feature, I have a Topper frame I thought about putting a versa 22Lr barrel on, but I gave up after too many that went for waaaay too much, I really kick myself for forgetting to up my bid on the one that went for less than $70. RR sells em for $127, Walmart for $119 (http://www.gboreloaded.com/forums/index.php/topic,114877.msg1098368252.html#msg1098368252) last I saw.

Went to the NEF Rimfire Board today, and there's quite a few posts about the Versa-Pak and its off-set .22 barrel. Apparently lots of interest about using .22LR barrels on SB1 and SB2 receivers. ;D
