Title: 301 Harrington & Richardson
Post by: jeepmann1948 on October 09, 2009, 02:51:19 PM
Anyone have any pictures, info, links to these rifles? I have been told that FN built them for H&R and H&R marketed them in the 70's and 80's.

I punched in Harrington & Richardson 301 action into Yahoo Search and it came up with a link for cheaperthandirt that had a blue
book listing for all H&R rifles made. About a page down it came up with Models 300 & 301 Ultra Bolt Actions Rifle & Carbine. They were made
from 1965 to1981 by 3 different  companies. FN 65-72   Sako 73-77  Zastava 78-81.   Interesting reading if you can find it as it show everything
H&R made.  Fred

It also appears that they had used Ultragon rifling before in there bbl's as the ad says for $10 extra you can get the 30-06 and the .308 with ultragon rifling. Didn't know that or at least I didn't know they called it "ultragon"Kurt

I had a H&R 301 in a 30/06 for a few years in an after market synthetic stock. It was a descent shooter, a very smooth action, and had one of the prettiest "bluing" jobs I'd ever seen on a mauser. I never did like the "flattened" bolt handle (knob) that H&R put on it. Alas, I sold it to a friend. IMHO, I think the FN Mauser is one of the best of the "commercial" mausers. I don't think mine had the "Ultragon" rifling, at least it wasn't stamped on the barrel.

Where there ever any 301 H&R's made with a totally round bolt handle? I have a Manlicher  20" carbine that is a spitting image  of a 301 except for the bolt handle.
( and the fact that the barrel is stamped 270 Win , no mfg names  so if it is a 301 it has been re-barreled)
