Title: NEF rimfire to centerfire?

I have an NEF .17hmr sportster can it be fit with a centerfire barrel? Or is it rimfire only?

Rim fire only due to the firing pin.

So how come the Rossi knock-offs can handle both rimfire and centerfire on the same frame?  Is the rimfire bore offset so the firing pin hits the rim?
