Title: Colt New Service

The Colt in the picture seems to be a 1917 the s/n and finish seem to be WW1 era. However no 'U.S. Army' marks on the barrel and the butt. The 1917 Smith does have the army markings. Did the 1917 Colts have the U.S. Army marks? I think they did. Could this be a civilian gun?

Yes, colt 1917 45DA revolvers had  United States Property marked under the barrel above the ejector head.  they also were marked on the butt and had a sling swivel.  The Model 1917 DA was 45acp.   Civilian  45acp revolvers were later than WWl.
