Title: The "wild Hair" as struck again!!!
Post by: kjeff50cal on January 14, 2004, 04:48:09 PM
I like you are a "sucker" for a good deal on a SS rifle (even if it isn't   ). I was crusing through one of my favorite pseudo-gun stores (definition: a store that is not quite wally world but has alot of other sport equipment for sale at a discount) and saw they had a few of those Rossi "pairs" combos on the shelf after Christmas for the same price (about $180). They were all in .223 Rem/ 20 gauge. The money was not right before CHRISTmas but with a few extra bucks in my pocket and more on the way (new contracts) I put one on Lay-away. The 23" barrel of the .223 is a 1 in 12" twist and I was wondering as to optimum bullet weight for accuracy. This gun will be used for target plinking and general woods loafing.

Factory 55 SP will satisfy your needs.  If you are reloading there are LOTS of other choices although I don't think that heavier bullets will stabilize well with the 1/12 twist.

2520,
I figured as much but when it gets here I might get a hold of some 60 gr. loads just to be sure. I was in Bass Proshop yesterday and saw some PMC (poor millitary cartriges) 55grs -40 round box for 10 bucks. It's almost as cheap as a box of .22 mag rimfire and has a little more reach :-) .
