Title: SXS Pedersoli 12 Ga
Post by: streak on August 23, 2012, 08:44:22 AM
Anybody use the Pedersoli SXS 12 ga. in either the regular double barrel with screw in chokes, or the fast back action SXS 12 ga.?
If so, thoughts and experience with hunting , and performance.

I have an old Pedersoli Upland Game SxS 12 gauge kit gun from the late 70's. This little gun is very light, being designed for light loads of small shot intended for rabbits, squirrels, quail, doves, pheasants...etc. It has a strait stock English configuration with cut checkering. I did not build the gun, I found it for sale used in Ft Collins at Cache La Poudre Rifle Works. The builder used a plumb brown finish for the barrels. I installed a swivel sling on the gun and I have taken it upland game hunting many many times. It is light, fast handling and patterns beautifully out to 35 yards. The barrels are a bit tight so even though it is stamped as a 12 gauge, I use 13 gauge wads in the gun. The barrels are both cylinder bore...no choke system.

I would highly reccomend the Pedersoli product-line. I own several of their rifles and this smooth bore SxS. I have used Pedesoli's to take many game animals from the majestic elk to the little erratic squirrel; I have also won more than a few shooting contests at the rondies with a Perdersoli in my hands.

This last weekend I stalked elk in the Colorado Rockies during our Blackpowder Season and I had a .50 calibre Pedersoli Alamo Rifle in my hands...light quick and a strait shooter. I just need to get a bit closer...there's still this weekend yet.

I have an original 1850's Belgium double and my little Pedersoli Upland Game could be that gun's twin.

If the Pedersoli that you are considering is used and was taken care of by the previous owner...you will not be disapointed.

Enjoy.

RHI,
Great to hear from you and thanks for the information!
I have a large amount of Cabela`s Club Visa points and thought I would cash them in on a Pedersoli 12 SXS 12 gauge.
I have another Pedersoli 12 ga. SXS called the " Buck`n Ball" model with IC bores for both barrels. It is light and has front sight and rear sight for shooting balls!
It can also be used for shot!
With a regular Pedersoli SXS it has chrome lined barrels and interchangeable chokes. Plus it has a little more overall length than the " Buck`n Ball" model.

P.S. How are those chickens doing??

I wish mine had Chrome lined barrels...the newer guns with that detail are very nice.

The chickens are doing great. We have 5 chickens and I got 4 eggs yesterday and 3 eggs today. As a side benifit, those birds are a lot of fun to have in the yard....haven't seen a grasshopper all summer.

Here are a few of my favorite BP Firearms. The top is my TVM Kentucky PoorBoy (.45 Calibre), the middle is my TVM Early Virginia 20 gauge smooth-bore and the bottom is my Pedersoli Brown Bess Carbine (11 Gauge). These are the guns that have most of my attention these days.

Aside from the rifle, I guess I'm sort of going through a single barrel smooth bore phase.

RHI,
 Nice looking collection!
What uses do you find most for your Brown Bess?

I bought one unfired many years ago for $90 the stock has some marring where it looks like something bit it.  This was long before the internet and what I knew about ml shotguns you could put in a thimble with room to spare.  I thought it shot terribly low until I realized that by reducing the powder and shot charge it shot fine.  I have killed turkey, dove and quail with it.  Its a hoot to shoot but is very light weight and will kick you mercilessly if you try to load it too heavy.  Cushion wads soaked in melted tallow seem to help with fouling issues.  Mine doesn't have screw in chokes.  I'm not a big shotgunner but have had a great time with this one.

RHI,

The Bess was my first ever flintlock. She has taught me a lot about flintlocks and smooth-bores over the years. She can be loaded to a very stout level and she can be loaded down so that she has a very mild report and recoil. I have used Bess to take geese and upland game such as Pheasants, quail, rabbits...etc.

The weather forcastes for this weekend call for nice mild weather...so (maybe) this weekend I hope to take a Colorado Bull Elk with her (fingers crossed)

RHI,
Was it you that mentioned on one of your post about using Diamondback black powder?
