Title: 6.5x55 In Africa
Post by: Sweet 6.5 on May 26, 2013, 07:16:36 PM
I had a chance last week to take my CZ 6.5x55 into the bush for a couple of days. I loaded 156gr Norma Oryx in Lapua cases @ 2670fps and my rifle loves this load. First up was an impala - I was walking with the tracker in thick thorny bush and the going was slow. Suddenly he pointed to something between the trees and at first I couldn't see anything. And then - there he was - a nice impala walking about 250yards away. We moved closer and at about 180 yards the brush made a nice opening in which the impala had to cross. Up with the sticks - I waited until he was in the opening and gave a soft cough - he stopped and I squeezed the trigger. His back legs buckled and he started running - 30 yards later he was down. Then we spend some time looking for kudu. I was getting worried because we were running out of time. Last day - we were walking slowly - stopping every once in awhile to scan the bush and listen for movement. Then I saw the sun reflect on a horn. I tapped the tracker on the shoulder and showed him. Up with the sticks - the kudu was watching us - trying to figure out what we were doing, the moment the cross of mu Burris met his shoulder the butt kicked into my shoulder. Once again the bullet passed right through the animal. These bullets leave little meat damageand have more than enough penetration.

Sweet!  The 6.5 Swede is underrated by a lot of those who just don't know the capability of a heavy 6.5mm slug.  Nice shooting.

;D Thanks. I have been busy with the bow more than the
rifle the last year or so and the bow department is not as active here, so
I stopped posting.

I am now on about 50 - 50 between the bow an rifle so I will spend
more time here again.
