Title: Mini 14 Barrell

I just bought my first mini 14 and noticed that about two inches from the muzzle the barrell seems to narrower to the end. There is what looks liked a machined ring on the barrell behind that ring it seems larger than in front of it. I hope that doesn't sound like the craziest thing you have ever heard. The gun was manufactured in 93 and looks the same as new. Any info. would be appreciated. Thanks.
