For many years, FEDERAL loaded a 125 grain hollow tip.  It hit very hard out to about 100 yards or so. A bullet placed into the shoulder would create a ghastly wound with heavy meat damage.

For a time Speer made a 130 grain flat tip with a fairly heavy jacket. It would extend the lethal range of most 30-30 carbines to 200 yards or more.

I have used the 150 grain flat nose round and it is a fine round.  Good expansion and good accuracy!  The new Hornady LeverEvolution rounds are GREAT!!!! 160 grains and it has more energy and velocity than standard .30-30 rounds! Hope this helps.  By the way, I shoot a Winchester Model 94 as well.
When an Army captain asked him for the direction of the line of retreat, Col Puller called his Tank Commander, gave them the Army position, and ordered: "If they start to pull back from that line, even one foot, I want you to open fire on them."
Turning to the captain, he replied "Does that answer your question?
We're here to fight."
