There are many and varried.  The one I use is 14 percent water soluable machine oil, 85 percent water, and 1 percent liquid soap with a dash of windex.  Some add alcohol to prevent freezing.  Works well for me.

You do have to add the machine oil to the water or it might not mix.

For roundball patching, I use...

4 oz water
4 oz rubbing alcohol
1 oz NAPA soluble cutting oil or Ballistol
shot glass full of Murphys Oil Soap

I spray em' - just getting each one wet ... not dripping (around 50) with a small misty spray bottle. Then I store them for a week in a tin Altoids container. Then when they are sorta dry a week later, I do both sides of the patch again - then let them sit another week before using them. I like my roundball patches mainly dry. No messy hands touching my MLs.

Nim. Before I give the recipe for "moose milk" I need to know what you plan to use it for.truth. What are your intentions,,Will you use "moose milk" properly,,or if you find/get the recipie will you abuse it!??
"Moose Milk" addiction is prolific and common. If someone begins using in a moderate manner, the next thing you know their asking about "mule snot" and heavy chemicals like hydrogen peroxide!! They begin to avoid simple behavior like cleaning after shooting,,and complain that accuracy isn't the same. It begins with overthecounter remidies like "Bore Cleaner" and other "aquois" formulations, man it's a slippery slope,,,,, :(

I tried my homemade milk recipe I listed above with 777 powder. Yikes!

Had fireball patches about 10 feet in front of me - then complete incineration/ashes.

Funniest thing I ever saaw at the range. Could be the 91% alcohol content percentage - along with the hottest powder on the market created it.

So I would like to modify my post by saying to add water-only to my mix in 40+ degree temps when using 777 powder -- or rent a fire truck enroute to the range. ;D

Here's the recipe that's real close to what I've used for years without the alcohol.

I was thinking about Moose Milk just the other day.  I don't remember all the formulation but I do remember it contained Lestoil.  Does anyone remember or know that formulation?  Thanks.

Click on the link in the reply above your post.

Lestoil is not Murphys Oil Soap. Some of those - like Pine Sol and others have different ingredients and more detergency than Murphys.

My formula is about a cup of Ballistol lube to a gallon of water.  That's it.  I use it to clean with, keep the lifter on my Henry running, ect.  Works great for me.

I use 10oz water and 1oz of the napa cutting oil.You can order a gallon of the oil from napa for around 28 dollars.Makes for a very cheap good lube.

When I used to make it, I mixed it 7 parts water & 1 part Oil.  And it will eventually separate if it sits a long time, so I suggest not mixing up allot at a time. Mix a pint or quart, use it, mix more, etc.... Mix a gallon & leave it on the shelf & don't touch it & watch it & in a month or so a scum will form at the top of the jug & milk on the bottom & then for some weird reason it don't want to mix that separation part back up too.  You can shake the H out of it & the scum oil will not mix back in.

This is a good mixture if you are going to shoot dry patches.  Make the lube, pour in a bucket, put the patch material in the bucket & leave soak for a hour or two, take out the material & Very Lightly wring out the excess fluid, lay on a flat cookie sheet in the sun to dry. Then cut into strips or patches & have dry lubed patches. The water evaporates & the oils stay impregnated in the fibres.
