I don`t have a mod. 97 - but a mod. 83 in 454, 7,5" and a Bisley in 45 LC, 5,5".

Both handle the Lyman 325 gr./H110-21 gr. very well.
7,5" = 1160 fps
5,5" = 1050 fps

8 grains of Unique under a 255 grain SWC.

This is not shot in a Model 97, but rather an Old Model Ruger: 8.0 grains of WW231 behind a 255SWC (Lyman Keith)

One reason I sold my 83 was because I couldn't afford the .45 Colt cylinder and Freedom Arms states in their manual that .45 Colt should not be fired in the .454 cylinder.

<should not be fired in the .454 cylinder.

I clean the cylinder after shooting 45 Colt - and I can`t say that I have noticed any problems.
I do the same thing when I shoot 38 Spec. in my .357.
