Newbie question about barrels

A week ago I picked up a ultra slugger 12 guage. I was wondering what barrels would fit the receiver if any. I tryed searching but the search feature is useless. I was hoping to find a rifle barrel for small game and target.

Welcome to GBO! The only other barrels that will fit is the 20ga slug barrel and the 10ga barrels(I think!), the USHs are built on 10ga frames, so  no other barrels can be fitted to it. H&R won't fit any rifle barrel to a shotgun frame.

Thats a bummer. Thanks for the link but I am still a little confused. Can you fit the 12ga ultra slugger on the rifle receiver? I think it says the 20ga ultra will fit but it doesn't look like the 12 will. Anyways, I guess I will be buying a new gun. I am unsure what caliber to get though. Whats a fun centerfire round for small game/target (100-200 yards)? I know .223 will be suggested but what else? Sorry for the newbie questions, I'm sure they get asked all the time. I have been reading the boards for about a week now and still haven't found all the info I am interested in knowing.

No, I'm pretty sure the USH barrels are made from the 10ga profile blanks, they're too big in diameter to fit a rifle frame which is meant to use barrels that measure a little over 1.1" in diameter at the chamber. Maybe someone that actually has one can clarify this for ya.

22 hornet, 22-250, or 243 are good if you reload if not i would go with the 223

It looks like I am gonna have to lean towards the .223. I want the 22-250 but I am not set up to reload. Is it expensive to get a decent set up? Also any oppinions on the .223 vs. the 22-250? Range wise are they about the same?

A 12 USH is a 10ga blank on a 10ga receiver. ONLY a 10ga bbl could be fit.

A 20ga USH is a 12ga blank on a std shotgun (SB1) receiver. So ONLY a shotgun bbl could be fit.

Rifles are on a SB2 frame BUT shotgun bbl COULD be fit to a SB2 as well.

Here's a ballistic comparison of the .22-250 to the .223. A better comparison would be the .204 Ruger to the .22-250, the .223 gets left in the dust at longer ranges but has other admirable qualities such as cheaper to reload for or buy ammo if you don't handload. The answer is all of them, starting with the .223...... and hornet, too!!

It can get pretty expensive just depends how involved you get. First you should get a reloading manuel and read it over if you have never reloaded. Then read it again. If it is something you want and have the time to do there are many online sources to get supplies and equipment. Gun stores that sell RL stuff can help you also.
