New Marlin XLR's --
« on: January 07, 2007, 01:41:08 PM »
I went to a gun store over the week end a took a really good look at the new XLR in 45/70. I have to have one. Great balance, all stainless steel and grey laminate stock. A rifle to last forever, well a long time. Anyone have one or shot one?

I was with a friend at the range yesterday shooting his 444 XLR with the leverevolution ammo and I was really impressed with its fell, accuracy and flat trajectory.

I have a Marlin 1895GS 45-70 with Marlin supplied black/gray laminate stocks that is extremely accurate...

I was at my local gun shop yesterday and did a side by side comparison between a 1895GS and an XLR both in 45-70...

The length of pull was 1/4" longer on the XLR model but actually felt shorter than the straight gripped 1895GS too me.  The pistol grip area of the butt stock is a lot thicker on the XLR as well...

Both rifles felt great and where easy to mount to shoulder...

Both are excellent rifles and it would be extremely hard to choose between the 2 if I was in the market for another one...

If I didn't already have the 1895GS and because I prefer rifles in s/s with the black/gray laminate stocks, I would go the easy route and purchase the XLR and have the barrel shortened to 18 1/2" before I brought it home.
