How to pick a handi
« on: October 11, 2006, 11:09:20 AM »
Ok, I have been looking at alot of the posts, and it would appear that there might be some things to look for when you are buying a handi. What would you look for when you went to buy a new handi. I am looking at an sb-2 in .204 ruger.

I would go for the 22" 204 bull barrel. There is also a 24" fluted barrel. The flutes from what I saw are strictly cosmetic and add only to the price.

The bull barrel is more stable and will loose little velocity compared to the 24" barrel. Check to make sure the lock up is tight. You can only tell wether you have a good shooter by shooting it. Most of them shoot pretty good.  If it don't shoot well sell it. Ckeck out the link below.

Fred has made some good points, except the selling option if it doesn't shoot good!! :D He's in Canada, so he doesn't have the option of returning the rifle to H&R for repair if it comes to that, for which they are second to none in customer service. I only know of one .204 that hasn't shot good in the last 2½yrs here, 95RoadKing had one that was only partially rifled, he returned it and was happy with it afterwards, IIRC.

I have bought a lot of Handis/Ultra, 25 complete rifles so far, several new, many used and a lot of parts to put my own together, I’ve never had any problem that needed H&R intervention. Mostly a little tweak here and there, nothing serious. Read the FAQ and Help sticky, that’s what it’s there for.
