Mini-14
« on: September 28, 2006, 02:22:41 AM »
How bout a Mini-14 in 6.8.  Would you buy one?? Should Ruger make one??  This sounds like a good idea and a compromise from the .223 to 7.62 debate... Could even be a decent deer rifle at resonable ranges.  I unfortunately live in "California, Republic of" and one may only have the Mini-14, the TEC ( till they catch-on to it), Springfields M1's new/surplus.  I recently saw an "approved AR-15, but the magazine is blind and must be loaded with the upper and lower separated, yes very convienent.  I get upset when I go to the range and dude's have AR's from before the ban!!!!!!!!!

It is the next logical step for the Mini 14 and would probably make a good combination.  I don't have a mini right now but have had several and I  understand that Ruger has finally got the new ones to where they provide fairly decent accuracy.  I might be interested in one in 6.8 if it provided useable accuracy.  I have had some in 223 that were ok and some that were hard pressed to hit a 10 inch plate at 100  yds.  If they could get a mini in 6.8 that would consistently go 2 inches or so it would be a good little rifle

V.C and Ed, We have 36 million idiots here. All are confirmed do-gooders and Democrates including the Govenator!  You cannot simply vote them out.  They keep coming out with all kinds of "systems" to protect the inoccent from the dangerous firearms.  We now have a State Safety Lab that handguns must pass a safety test before being offered for sale.  No other handgun may be imported.  I once tried to purchase in Montana and was politely denied due to this restriction.  Anyway back on topic, I once saw a Ruger Catalog, I think it was year 2000 or so.  It included pictures of Bill Rugers personal collection and showed a rifle described as a Model XGI, 308.  Looked just like an M-14, maybe a little larger.  Not a variation of the mini-14 but what looked like a new slightly larger receiver, etc.  I dont belive that this one ever went into production, but would also be excellent to have.  Maybe we could petition for it in 6.8spc also.  They could sell the heck out of um!  How bout it Ruger?????????
