22Hornet loads..does this make sense?
« on: October 18, 2006, 03:17:51 PM »
I've got a good load for my Browning Micro hunter 22 Hornet using W296 and the Hornady 40 gr VMax.   It will shoot three shots in an inch at 150 yards at about 2800 fps.

I've heard that Lil Gun is THE POWDER for the Hornet so I bought a pound of it to try.

According to the Hodgdon relative burn chart this powder is faster than W296.  So why does the loading data show I can load Lil Gun heavier than 296 at lower pressure?

Greg

Aside from burn rate you must also look at the load density , chemical makeup and other factors of each powder , the best that i can tell you is to give the powder compamy a call and ask one of their experts .

Then it could be a mis-print , they are human .  :o

Lil'Gun From 9.2 grains to 13.7 grains
 Remington 6-1/2 Primer

W-296 From 8.2 grains to 11.5 grains
 Remington 6-1/2 Primer

I preferred the W-296 loading.
