Sportster Question

I had the opportunity to handle a .22 sportster at Gander Mountain yesterday and I have a question. I shouldered the rifle to check the open sights and I had a hard time getting the front post to settle in to the notch on the rear sight. It was almost like the comb was too tall for open sights and it was set up more for scope use. I had to rest the comb right below my eye when the rear ramp was at its lowest. Has anyone experienced this also?

I have never had that problem with the correct stock, did it by some chance have the wrong stock on it? I have seen used guns on the rack with just that improper setup, Monte Carlo stock put on an iron sighted gun, I have even seen Monte Carlo stocks on Handi shotguns on the used gun rack!!! So, was it a Monte Carlo or regular stock?....<><.... :)

It looked like a regular Sportster stock to me. This was the display model. GM did not have any left in stock.

Same thing happened to me a couple of years ago with a used (at a gun show) Handi in 22 Hornet. It had a Monte Carlo stock and open sights - I bought it anyway and put a scope on it... no prob after that because I didn't use the irons. My son has a .22 Sportster with a youth stock, and there doesn't seem to be a problem with it, irons or scope.

could have been a case of H&R putting a wrong stock on it at the factory , they do that some times
