Found It!
« on: July 20, 2006, 05:20:39 AM »
It has taken me a bit but I finally found a stream near home with gold.  I took the dredge to a spot where I found the gold in the post below and did better than at any spot that I have ever tried.  One nugget about 1/4" across, several pickers, and many other pieces.  Not much flour gold as I blame the miners moss for not having a backing an it must be traveling through and down the sluice.

If I can get this computer repaired I will try to post some pictures but it may take some time to do so.  My whole system crashed because of some spyware.

Dave, gonna go to the high country tomarrow and do some camping for a couple days. Leaving the boat home, but gonna take my pan and both metal detectors. Funny part is my house is located over the top of one of the tunnels from the old Empire Star gold Mine (it closed in 56).

I wish I was working those bath water warm streams of California.  Up here the snow has still not melted from the mountain tops.  The water in the stream I am working is somewhere around 38 degrees.  I was so cold the other day when I returned I was shivering and had to wrap up in a quilt.

But I will be back out tomorrow............. new pan (stream stole the other one), ribbed rubber matting under the miners moss for additional fines recovery.  Got ot love it!

You know if I was going to be working in cold water like that I would get myself a wet suite you know like divers use. It would keep you a hell of a lot warmer then any type of cloths you could wear. Oh and they do not cost all that much if you think what all they could be used for. Get yourself one of the thinner pairs and even wear them under reg cloths in winter. the thinner ones do not stop you from bending like the thicker ones would.

Dave I was up in your neighborhood but I couldn't find the right kind of tree to plug this monster in to talk to you.
I spent a little time in the Homer area metal detecting till it warmed up a little. The creeks were still covered when I got up there the end of May.
From there I went to Central and spent almost 8 weeks there till I was kindly asked to pull up camp by the State or pay a $500. extended camping permit.
I never had to replace so many pump seals in my life then I did working in that Gravel pit. That Garnet sand just cut through them.
But the color was good.
I started wearing a 7 Mill suit with a 4 mill over that and waders after busting a hole in the ice and long arming it for a while but the ground water never got comfortable it always hurt the exposed skin.
We had a great time playing in your back yard.

Lead pot.
Dont go were the path leads,go were there is no path and leave a trail.

The new GPAA Forum looks a lot better.  On the last one it ws difficult to find posts and it seems like they were in no order.  Looks good now.
