First NEF on order - what scope/mount?
« on: October 13, 2006, 02:41:25 AM »
Hi everyone!  I have been an avid gun owner/collector/shooter for many years, but just got the itch for a new rifle.  At first I was thinking about getting a NEF .223 I saw at the local Academy Sports store, but went online to investigate the rifle and saw the NEF Survivor.  I fell in love at first sight and went to my local gun store to have them order one for me in .308.

Now I'm wondering what ya'll think of this rifle, and what type of scope and rings work best, keeping in mind I don't have a lot of money to spend on these items.  Also, does the rifle come with anything in the stock/forearm and does the strap shown in the ads come with the gun?

Are there any other helpful hints ya'll could give me on getting the most accuracy out of this rifle?

Thanks, PAPACHUCK from SE Louisiana. :)

Let me be one of the first to welcome you to GBO. Sit back and be amazed at how much information some of these people have. I recently asked about ways I could improve the accuracy of my new 308 ultra hunter. You can see the dicussion and responses a few topics down the list here. I am in the process of doing some of these tweeks. Also, be sure to check the FAQ page which appears as one of the beginning topics of this forum. It is "loaded" with information. Perhaps the most important thing to determine is how well the gun shoots initially. Then you tweek as needed. Good luck and good shooting

As far as i know the only things that comes with the rifle are a sling , scope mount , offset hammer spur and a lock . as far as a scope and rings , i use mostly Bushnell Banner scopes in 3x9x40 with Weaver mid. high rings .

On my 223 and 22mag i use Barska and Tasco 6x24x50s with Weaver rings .

And by the way welcome to GBOs

Thanks for the welcome northjdr and stimpy!

I have found most gun forums very informative and the people very friendly.  As soon as my new rifle comes in and I get a chance to mount a scope on it, I'll post some range results and pics.

Talking about guns is at least half of the fun of owning guns!

'till then....    :) :) :)

I'm not one of the "experienced" ones here...
I'm here to read/learn...

I have the  .223 -and- .308  Bull-Barrels and SurvivorStocks.
I'm still "learning" the  .223  (and a  Stevens .223, too)...
My comment to offer is that the  .308  ReCoil is TOO MUCH
for the  Narrow-Butt on the survivor-stock.  I've only shot
20-30 (factory) rounds thru the .308 and have to pad my
shoulder with an extra SandBag...    Good Luck with yours.

Best mounts BY FAR are the Burris Signature (Weaver style) mid-height. Scope maybe Bushnell 3200.
