Attention CPPC members:
We now have a sufficient supply of gold lame fabric for the gowns and cummerbunds. There is a refinement however. Nancy Killian, the gown maker has recommended that we also use copper lame also. The reason is that the gold (i.e., brass) color looks better on dark skinned or olive skinned women while the copper (i.e., gilding metal) color is more flattering to light skinned women.
I've mailed the forms and instructions for taking measurements. Ms. Killian will substantially complete each gown but final fitting will need to be done by a local seamstress. The women know this and are making the arrangements; they also know that the measurements are to be taken by a seamstress to avoid any problems in final fitting. Formal wear shops can do this work. The original concept for the cummerbunds was that they be one-size-fits-all, but we've found that this is not workable due to the large variation in men's waist sizes of those attending (can you believe 28" to 72" in a small sample size!!!). Forms for this measurement have been mailed, but is simple enough to be done with a tape measure, and requiring no special assistance.
The question has arisen whether this is event is "white tie" or "black tie". It is definitely white tie. The difference is that white tie is formal, with men in tuxedos and women in gowns. Black tie, on the other hand, is less formal and dinner jackets are usually worn. Only the gala ball requires formal attire of any kind. All other events require informal attire.
Best,
