Model 70 Re-barrel

I have a pre-64 m70 in 30-06. I am thinking on a wildcat round. I have been toying with the following, maybe a 240 Weatherby, but then maybe a 375 Scovill and trying to get below subsonic. Just looking for your thoughts.

Before you jump head first into it; what is the overall purpose that you'll be using it for?

   If your Win. is a good shooter I would never rebarrel it. If you want to build a wildcat get a different action. The per 64 mod. 70`s are worth to much to destroy.
   I like to stick to a round that will work in the blot face already in the action and with the 06 that mean a round with a .473 case head. If your wanting the .240 Weatherby and have a .473 bolt face why not go with the 6 mm-06. It`s the same round without the belt.

I second Catfish on both counts; I would leave the pre 64 original and look for a donor action for the new build.  Rem 700 actions/rifles are very affordable and Mauser even more so.  Either action should result in a good shooter.

Simple build, I had a Rem 700 action, brought a 243 new take-off barrel for $45 and rented the reamer for $35.00. 
I built it for a coyote rifle shooting 87 gr bullets but have killed several deer using 100 Gr Partions.  It shoots 1/2-3/4" at 3700 fps with the 87's and 3475 with the 100 gr bullets.
