Thinking about a 45-70 Guide Gun (ss) ?

Thinking about a 45-70 SS guide gun for next years Deer season most of my shots are under 200yds. Is this ctg. to heavy for 200yds. or less.--------Thank's.

Load up some 300 gr. bullets and go practice at the range you want to shoot at. Will the 45-70 do a 200 yards shot, sure it will, but you need to be up for the task.

Thanks for the info. I will be using factory ammo as I don't reload. I shot a friends new guide gun recently and the recoil was not as bad as my 30-06 , I will have some 200 yd. shots on power lines and some shots only 25yds. I like the lever gun more than one shot also a larger ctg.

Try some Federal 300 grain Unicore loads...or the Winchester Supreme Partiton loads...Both will work wonders on deer...The new Hornady loads are supposedly pretty good...but I didn't like the keyholing I got with them out of my XLR at 250+ yards...
