Reasonable Value for Used CZ 452 American 17 HMR
« on: October 27, 2006, 09:31:39 AM »
Good Morning!

I posted this message at RimfireCentral, but I want as many opinions as I can get. If this is frowned upon, let me know, I will delete this post if I can.

I've found an ad in one of the local traders for a CZ 452 American with Barska 6.5-24x50 scope. They are asking $375 for it. I looked around briefly for Barska scopes and from what I've found, they are budget scopes. Correct me if I'm wrong, please.

Whittakerguns.com lists the 452 American 17HMR for $336.99. I don't want to spend more for the gun than I would buy it for new if I will end up replacing the scope anyways. What would be a good offer, if the seller were to consider selling the gun without the scope?

The ad says the gun is in excellent condition. It's also a 2 hour drive, so I don't want to drive there and discover it's not worth the money.

Thank you for your help!

John

Looks high to me.  I think you could get a new one with for what they are asking.  Depending on the scope mounts they might be worth something,  but that is a budget scope.

Yep, Barska definitely isn't up there with Leupold and Zeiss  ;)  You can pick up a brand new gun on GunBroker for $325

... Look for a better deal, or if you like the rifle - buy it new [or used at a much better price] and put what you want on it for optics.

As far an an offer, I wouldn't pay more than $275 for the gun used in good condition.  But that's just me.
