357 Maximum and Hodgdon LIL'GUN
« on: October 18, 2006, 03:49:27 PM »
I just bought a pound of this powder for my 22 Hornet, but was wondering if it's a good powder for my Contender 357 Maximum.  Any load recommendations?

There are no recommendations for this powder in the 357 Maximum in any of my books.
The burn rate chart shows that it is faster than the two best powders for the Maximum which are H110 and AA1680.
I would recommend the Hodgdon H110 with bullet weights up to 170 grain anf for heavier bullets AA1680

Hodgdon, Lyman, Speer, Sierra, Hornady = reliable resources
so and so's pages on the internet = not reliable resources
Alway check loads you find on the internet against manuals.
NEVER exceed maximum listed loads.

I'm loading W296 with a Hornady 180 XTP now in my Max with good results, same powder as H110.

Thanks

I load W 296 in all of my hot handgun rounds, and have had such good luck with it I rearly try any other powder in them. I figure if it works don`t fix it.  ;)
