Ghost Ring Sights on a Handi Rifle?
« on: October 21, 2006, 05:26:30 PM »
Now that I've decided calibers (30-30 & .22 Hornet) I'm curious about sights for the 30-30.
Anyone here use the XS sight systems Ghost Ring sights on their Handi Rifle?
Given the wide variety of shooters I've seen here so far, I'd definitely like your opinions, based on experience.
Thanks,

Tim

A WGRS without the aperture works just like a ghost ring, I've used them for years on different rifles. ;)

Thanks for the input.  That's the receiver mounted sight, yes?  What exactly is the barrel mounted rear sight the factory uses?  Hard to tell exactly from the pics I've seen.
Thanks,

Tim

Current production rifles have the Williams WGOS rear sight, but seems to me that someone said H&R is switching back to their original proprietary rear sight. The WGRS sight can be seen in the FAQ and Help sticky in Peep and Firesights.

Thanks Tim!

Re-read one of my other posts, and realized you already answered that last question.  Thanks for the pics!  Makes it a LOT easier to see than those factory pics!  Will browse the stickys again.
Still wondering about the XS product though  ;D.  They've got the open sights I want on my Cowboy gun project  8)
Thanks again,

Levergun 94:
Have had no experience with the XS products. But here is another option for you. This is not mounted on a Handi, but a Western Field (Savage Model 94). I had it mounted on the shotgun while in Alaska. Since it mounts directly on the receiver, it is not subject to the shocks of the action being closed, extends the sight radius over anything mounted on the barrel and you could remove the sight aperture for the ghost ring effect. I find that the aperture works best for me if I can get it closer to the eye. Just two screws to mount it and then mount a front sight of the needed height. This sight was manufactured for the Winchester Model 94, and fits the Handi profile very well.
