Single Six to Bisley?

I've got a Single Six and a Ruger Bisley in a .45 Colt.  I'm wondering how difficult it would be to convert the .22 to a Bisley Model.  Would it be a home gunsmith job, a pro conversion, or would I be better off trying to trade up?

Also, would having the same grip frame help my shooting with the larger gun or am I just being a nut?  I do prefer the
Bisley frame, but have never shot a Bisley .22.

If you know your way around guns, you can get the parts from Brownell's and do it yourself.  The springs can be a little tricky to get back in place.  However, the grip runs about $167.  I picked up a used .22 Bisley for my brother last year for $225.  They are not common, but they are out there, and unless  you are attached to your particular single six I would just look for another gun rather than convert the one you have.

I was hoping that there was an el-cheap way into a Bisley.  I suspect that most folks with Bisleys tend to hang onto them, too.  I'm sure that they are available, but probably tougher to find.

I bought my Ruger single six 2 years ago with the Bisley configuration.  What is odd is the seller had the price marked down because the gun was not selling, everyone wanted the smaller grip of the tradional colt pattern.  I really like the Bisley grip and hammer shape, but I also have large hands and these grips fit really well.

Similar situation.  I was looking to get into SA shooting and actually borrowed a pair of Blackhawks from my brother-in-law.  I shot them OK, but the grips weren't very comfortable.  I was talking guns with a buddy and he explained the difference and brought a Single Six Bisley and a Freedom Arms for me to check out the grips.  I was hooked. I actually bought the Single Six thinking that I could convert it easily.  I can handle and shoot it OK, but I would like the Bisley grip just to keep things the same.

I'll definately keep my eyes open.  Probably be posting in Classifieds here prety soon.

If you give up on finding what you want, you can get the parts from Brownell's. Installation of the grip is easy. Matching the new grip to the existing frame can be challenging.
Grip shape and size is very much a matter of personal preference. I have one Bisley .45 and nearly a dozen Blackhawks. I prefer the Blackhawk grip, even in .44 mag.
