Frame Conversion?
« on: April 15, 2003, 03:37:07 AM »
I have an 88,xxx frame with the octagon 45/410 barrel.  Just got a 30-30 barrel from Ed's and was glad when it closed and opened fine.  At the range, however, the hammer would hit the firing pins but they weren't going in and hitting the primer.

I called T/C and talked with the service department.  He recommends the easy open conversion so that all of the newer barrels will work.  He also said individual tinkering with the individual barrel to make it work in my frame could create a dangerous situation.

I kind of like the old style hammer without the thumb switch.  Plus I just have bought a lot of stuff and don't really want to pay another $55.  Is this guy trying to get some extra money from me?  Can the barrel be made to fit/work ok safely?  Are there any negatives to getting the conversion done?

Thanks for the help!

p.s. The original barrel has a star stamped on one side and a 0 on the other.  The new 30-30 barrel has a start on one side and a 2 on the other.  If it matters...

At least I would send it in. I recently purchased another early frame that someone had really butchered up the lugs on. So much so, that the locking table of the frame had some peening, and looked horrible. I sent it to T/C for new fitting of new locking lugs, and if necessary, a fix for the frame. It was returned with new lugs, locking table dressed up, and the easy-open conversion done. All this at no charge! Those guys have got to be the best ever! I have never dealt with a company that stands behind their products like T/C does.,,,,,,Bug.

I had the same thing happen. Sent it in and had it back in a week. Great service and the frame opens great. I wish I would have done it long ago.
