Gun's vs Doctors :)
« on: August 05, 2006, 12:50:06 PM »
(A) The number of doctors in the U.S. is 700,000.
(B) Accidental deaths caused by physicians per year are 120,000.
(C) Accidental deaths per physician is 17.14%.

Statistics: Courtesy of the U.S.Dept of Health & Human Services.

Guns...

(A) The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000 (yes! that's 80 million).
(B) The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is 1,500.
(C) The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is 0.001875%.

Statistics: Courtesy of the FBI.

So statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.

Remember: Guns don't kill people, doctors do.

FACT: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE DOCTOR.

Please alert your friends to this alarming threat. We must ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand! Out of concern for the public at large, I have withheld statistics on lawyers for fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical attention!

I'd like to have figures for the number of patients who die when under the IMMEDIATE medical care of a physician.  My guess is even that figure would be stunning.  My wife is a operating room nurse and she could write a book of horror stories about it.

Yep, next time y'all get sick, especially from a life threatening illness, I expect you'll go to a gun range.

Yep, that what I thought.

This is one of the most overblown statistics posted on websites today.  You see it pop up on various sites at least once a month, and its ridiculous the support it gets.

Sometimes you have to expose the absurd (efficacy of gun control) by being absurd.  Does make you think about statistics though.

I'm sure everyones heard about the three degrees of untruths.
First their are lies.
Then you have damn lies.
And then you have statistics.

Those stats remind me of another one that I read a while back about gun totin' women with pms.  I wish I could remember it.  went something like:
Of the 80 million gun owners in the US 25% of them are women (20 million).  Of those 1 in 28 are going through pms (714,285).  Of those 5% are lesbians.  So we can conclude that there are over 35,000 women in this country carrying guns, with pms, and hate men.  So be very careful what you say to women.

Shhhhhhhh, the next thing the government will make us carry is accidential death/malpractice insurance if we own a weapon. Let sleeping dogs lie! Who cares if the stats are skewed?
