500 S&W velocity ?
« on: October 26, 2006, 02:45:57 PM »
Does anyone know how much velocity you pick-up out of the 22" barrel. The load I'm looking at is 350grs XTP - VEL. 1600 - FPE 2300 I'm guessing it's out of an 8" something barrel.Anyone know,I thought someone said 120 fps before but I'm not sure.Thanks,Dave.

These are a little mild compared to Hornady factory, but they'll be nice shooting at the range.

They pick up about a 100 fps over what is published for the pistol. I've chronographed several different loads including a 350 gr. Sierra JHP.

Try some of Montana Bullet Works 370 gr. LFNGC they shoot good out of my rifle with 43 grs. of Lil Gun, and they hit like a sledgehammer.

I shot a 150 lb. hog last saturday at 80 yds. through both front shoulders. It dropped in its tracks with a 50 cal. hole all the way through. I haven't shot much else because I got them the day before the hog hunt, but I will before long. :)

I dont know about 100fps. Thats WAY less than I have gotten. More on the order of 400fps or so.

I first chronod the Bullseye 325 grs ot of a 10" S&W at 1600 and change. Same bullet ot of the Handy was over 2100.

My own 500 gr hand loads are about 1800 from the handi. The book advertized the load to be about 1300 from a 10" barrel if I remember correctly. I am yet to shoot them form the S&W as recoil is stout out of the handi..... :o ::) ::)

Those numbers are sweet.
Useing 350 XTP - 2100 fps - B.C. 0.145 .Just under a 450 Marlin leverevolution load 3572 FBE by 145 FBE at muzzle.Not bad for what is called a handgun cartridge.Thanks guys,Dave.
