Fitting grips to Ruger?
« on: September 25, 2004, 06:40:15 PM »
I just a set of Ajax grips for my Ruger BH.  They are a little over sized just like I was expecting.  They are some of the Perlite grips and I have just got the grips sanded to the proper fit.  I have sanded them to 400 grit and tried to buff them with a dremal polishing wheel and simichrome.  I wet sanded with paper and of course they look great wet.  My question is - How do I get the high gloss back?  Simichrome did not do it as I thought.  Do I need to sand it further to 800 or 1000 grit?  The fit is right and now all I need to do is get the shine back.  Thanks for any help.  This is the first grips I have tried to fit.

1200 grit wet dry paper or polishing compound from the auto body shop.

Thanks!  I figured it out.  I went to 1000 grit wet sanding then used the simichrome and the shine is back!  Now I have grips that fit and look good.
