Are these rounds made to only work in the new model marlins, or will they work in any old winny or marlin, or any 3030 for that matter?

I have a 1895 guide gun 18.5".I sighted mine in with the new ammo for a 100 yds.I was hitting a 10" target at 225 yds..I'm on my third box of these playing with targets at different ranges,and sizes.I'm sure these rounds will work well in Winnies and H&R's. Hornady says there going to better the coef. of the bullets next year.

Yes, you can use them in any .30/30. That XLR Marlin has come out with looks like a sweet gun and it shoulders well. That 600.00 tag on it though made me put it back in the rack pretty quick. They come with a Pachmayr Decelerator pad on them that makes the length of pull just right, at least for me. Now, if they could just do something about the asking price on this thing!

Aint that the truth...Just traded for a 45-70 XLR...

...I should have it home in a few weeks...I could have brought home the regular Blued model but opted to put it in lay-away for a couple of paydays.. The grey lams and stainless steel was just to durn nice to pass up..and since it already comes with a nice decelartor pad on it..it will just save me the hassle of doing it myself...

Well, let us know how she shoots. I know they sure do feel good coming to the shoulder and I wonder how that extra 4" of barrel is going to help zip that Hornady bullet along. I'm really curious to know. I like the fact that they have the ballard type rifling instead of the Micro Groove type. Run some Garrett Hammerheads through that .45/70 and no animal that walks is going to walk very far from where it was hit. I think that's a good point about this kind of rifling. Using cast bullets won't lead the barrel up on that kind of rifling but it will on the Micro Groove stuff pretty quick. Congratulations on your new gun!!! I've been thinking about one myself but every time I put money back, something like a leaky roof or something for my college-aged son comes along and takes it

. One of these days (and I am going to see that it is soon), I will just buy what I want and not feel guilty about it. I'm getting really tired of trading one gun for another. I like them ALL too well.

Very accurate in my Marlin model 30, not so accurate in my Marlin model 36 or 30-30 Handi. Like anything else, just depends on the rifle.

i guess i may spark some controversy with this but i dont see what all the hoopla is with these. A properly sighted 3030 using corelocks will easily take a deer out to 200 yards and much past that the energy levels arent there anyway. To me there not worth the double or triple the price you have to pay for them.

It's just like everything else, something for everyone! Just like premium bullets, not everyone will use them, but enough do that it makes both the mfr and those that want them glad that they do.

I like laminated stocks so I called Marlin a few months back and asked them if the laminated stocks were available to buy for the normal 336. At that time they said they weren't but they should be shortly. I would guess they are now but I still think if you put a set of those on your normal 336 you already have, it'd be better than buying this XLR. I just think the price is too high on it. Don't get me wrong, they shoulder well and all that but I don't think 4" of additional stainless steel barrel, Ballard rifling and a Pachmayr Decelerator pad warrants that much money.

I do...I even like the gray lams on my Handi's...

To each his own my friend...that's what makes the world go around........but if you don't...that's fine... I can say your missing out on one of the best shooting versions they have had in a long long time...

Out of my 30AS the new Hornady groups about 6 to 8" at 100 yards. If I use Winchester soft points I get 1" groups. I have faith in the new round and think they will be great, just not in my rifle.

Another Gimmick...
But, I have fallen for many Gimmicks Myself

(who would have thought a 60 grain .22 LR bullet would have snagged me)
My hunting Rifle Most of the time is a H&R model 158 Topper
single shot or a MDL. 94 AE both in .30-30.
I load 150 Grain Ballistic-Tips to about 2200 fps.
I chamber one in the MDL 94 then load 150 Gr. JRN rounds into the Magazine.
This load has consistanly worked for me just about every since the ballistic tip
was introduced ! .30 Cal hole in Nickle sized hole out.
I have made some pretty long shots with this round too.
I have had those same 4 JRN cartridges that I load into the Magazine for many years.
They have never been necessary. Kind of a bad luck thing not having them,
like stepping on the foul line when taking the field in baseball I guess.
UnFortunately I am supersticious(sp).
I don't think those "New Fangled" bullets will do anything for me
that my loads don't already do. Ya'll have fun with them though!

I use IMR 3031 in my .30-30 Win.
with all 150 grain bullets.
I have not loaded for it in a while because
I went crazy last time and loaded many seasons worth.
If I remember correctly it was 27 1/2 Grains
or 28 1/2 grains

S.Sumner,IMR3031 for all my reloading from 222Rem up to 45-70Gov,as I posted before I no longer load for my 30-30s but use Winchester 170gr SP ammo for them.When I did load 30-30 it was 30gr IMR3031 under a 165gr Game King SP Boat Tail bullet,for a one in the chamber and one in the tube for lever rifles.I can only get one shot at a Deer if I miss the Deer It's in the next County,so it's one to knock him down and maybe a follow up shot to keep him down.No sence in a full tube of FT bullets.

Lets see here Bass Pro has 30-30 LEVERevolution for $15.99 a box and someone posted that it costs triple what they get their ammo for. So where do I get the 30-30 ammo for $5.33 a box or is the Hornady stuff a real good deal after all. Again I say you must shoot this stuff to understand what it turns an everyday 30-30 into. Granted it seems to work better with Ballard rifling but it's still a godsend and Hornady says they are working on and even better round..

Thats about what I pay for Federal Premiums.

In my case it doesn't make a lot of difference. The range where I hunt is less than 100 yards. But for those with longer shots this is good news.

The 30-30 is intended to be a relatively short range brush rifle. SO if I wanted to reach out beyond the 150-200 yard max of std 30-30 rounds, I take my 30-06 or 308. If I want to go to 1200 yards I use my HS Precision 300 win mag. ie. I don't see the point of the Leverevolution. Most people DO have more than one rifle..and there is always some kind of trade-off when there is an attempt to take a rifle and massage it into a new kind of beast.

Well, an H.S. Precision rifle is far and away out of my price range when I have so many other bills. Actually, I really see no reason to have multiple rifles, unless someone just WANTS them (I can REALLY understand that!) and can comfortably afford them. Or, if one hunts game larger than deer. For instance, a .270 and a .30/06, for all intents and purposes, fills the same niche. A .30/06, loaded properly will do most of what a .300 Win. Mag. will do with the right person shooting it. So, for those of us whose incomes are earmarked for children's college tuitions in addition to all the expenditures that go along with daily life, one rifle for big game is all some of us can justify. I'm very happy for those who can comfortably afford more and all that, but where I live in Ky., we really have no other big game other than whitetails except the elk in the far eastern part of the state and you have to be drawn for that, which is highly unlikely. Given this fact, a .30/30 is a great choice and this ammunition is a bonus here because at times, we can get a two-to-three hundred yard shot. The extra "oomph" this ammunition gives is a great fit for such opportunities. I say it's always better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Has anyone used the new Hornady Leverevolution ammo in their 45/70 to see what the benefits are downrange? I only remember seeing 30-30 results posted by members. Just curious ....
