223 14" and Site Question
« on: April 20, 2003, 04:54:05 PM »
Ok guys, this is going to be a strange one. I shot my buddy's Remington 700 BDL chambered in .222 over the weekend. I was just amazed at its accuracy and lack of recoil. I also love that type of site picture...the hooded front with the bead on top of the blade.

At any rate, I don't own rifles other than a lever action Winchester .22 and a couple of pellet rifles.

Are there many reasons to believe that a Contender Chambered for .223 with a 14" barrel would be a lot less accurate...shooter aside?

Also, I know that Ken Light makes a nice hooded front site, but I don't know what the blade looks like underneath. I've never actually seen one other than on his web site. Does anyone make the same type of hooded front like the one on the BDL described above for the Contender?

Thanks!
Russ

As far as the accuracy goes my contender pistol with a super 14 barrel and a 6x scope will often embarass a casual rifle shooter , I shot a personal best 5 shot goup yesterday of a 4 shots touching and the 5th spreading the group to 3/4 of and inch.

Just out of curiousity...what kind of range are we talking about?

Nice to hear!

Sorry , that was at 100 yards . most of the time my targets at 100 yards are 1-1 1/4 inches with 5 shots , my personal best at 50 yards was 5 shots measure 3/8 of an inch also shot on sat.  .My encore rifle in .223 shoots regular 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards with a best of .420 but I think I can one day get a .250 from it .

 it will take a heck of a rifle to out shoot a contender with a experienced shooter behind it, especially with a tailored load running down the tube.
super 14 .223-40gr nosler bt- 13.5gr blue dot powder- approximately 2900fps
i shot my best ever group a few days ago. 3 shots at 100 yards were less than 1/2" measured center to center, actually it was .450". it'll take quite a bit of money put into a dandy rifle to get much better than that in my opinion.  i'm not braggin, just stating my views for the purpose of letting it known just how accurate these things are. they just amaze me.
hey, the first barrel i ever had come with a hooded front sight that had come off of a remington rifle. i would assume you could just replace yours with one if you wanted. :D
