Refinish a Target Model Stock?

Has anyone refinished a Target Model or BC stock?  I don't like the finish on the one I have and would like a duller more oil finished look.  Can anyone show pics? Thanks.

why not look at brownell's website to see what kind of instructional format they present on your subject.   they are helpful.

I just put a few coats of hand rubbed Tru-Oil on top of mine, then dull the finish with #0000 steel wool, I've done this on many stocks, works for me. ;)

Please post a few pictures. Maybe i can help if I have an idea of what you are working with.

If I am being a little too forward, please forgive me. I haven't spent much time on this board and being new to this forum I have no idea what you have or are expecting to accomplish.

To get rid of shine I usually gently buff with 0000 steel wool , like quickdtoo mentioned or a courser car polish that is made for removing oxidation. Regular polish will probably make it shinier/worse. Brownell's sell the rougher version of the car polish if you want to try it, called Stock rubbing compound (bet you would never guess that one ;) ). Why pay the extra? If you use a buffing compound, keep a spray bottle of half mineral spirits & half mineral oil handy. Whatever they add to compiunds dries out quickly. This won't and makes a great lubricant. Careful not to overdue the buffing. Papertowels make cheap buffing rags. Don't last long....but you can buy a whole lotta paper vs. a small bag of rags.

Thanks for all the ideas. I think I will buff it out and take the shine off. If that doesn't satisfy me I will add some coats of rubbed oil. I think somewhere in there, I will find what I am looking for.

I hope you guys don't mind the t/c here but I think if you striped the B.C> stock and then went to work on it with tung oil it would look great.I like to use stipper to remove the old finish then  000 steel wool to it,then raise the grain and 600 grit wet and dry paper.I like using tung oil FORMBY'S SATIN FINISH .I apply about 5 coats then steel wool with 000 then reaply maybe total of 10 coats.comes out like glass;I also use true oil on th barrel channel to seal out moisture:takes time but but have a lot of time to kill.

When refinishing a stock that is checkered how do you avoid damaging the checkering??
