Taurus 669
« on: October 31, 2006, 03:01:58 PM »
I just bought a used Taurus 669 pistol and after shooting it I found it throws everything way to the left. I was going to adjust the rear sight but it was already adjusted as far as it could be. After looking the gun over I noticed that the groove on the top of the frame does not line up with the rib on the barrel. If I could turn the barrel in clockwise about 1/64" it would be lined up and I would think I would then be able to adjust the sight to match point of impact.

I don't think the barrel is pinned but I suppose there could be some thread locking compound on it. I know Taurus is supposed to have a liftime warranty but after reading some posts on here from people that have sent in guns for work I am not to excited about that idea. It seems simple enough to turn the barrel a tiny bit but I am not going to atempt it until I do so more research and hopefully get some first hand advice from someone that knows more about this than I do.

So, does anyone out there have experience doing this kind of work on Taurus revolvers ? and if so, care to share your knowledge.

Turning the barrel may seem easy but there are other things to think about.. such as barrel/cylinder gap and re-cutting the throat after the barrel is shortened..  It sounds likely that you have found the problem, but I'd let Taurus fix it.. It may take a while and I have had no dealings with the product service department, so can't speak to that.. Of course that last may be a compliment, not a slam.. Give them a call, you may be surprised. If it were S&W I'd say forget it but all I've heard about Taurus was OK..
