Re-Enactor gear-where to find it and what to buy...
« on: May 01, 2006, 03:23:32 PM »
well after seeing a few German Reenactors at the Range yesterday, i'm kinda interested in where to find gear and uniforms. i'm interested in WW1 and WW2 Canadian gear, namely for the South Saskatchewan Regiment and the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada. i know some of the stuff like web gear is still fairly easy and cheap to find. does anyone maybe have a list of what i'd need to complete the full kit of an average rifleman?

My re-enacting was confined to the American Civil War
so I can't really help you with a Canadian regiment.
I can tell you that it is a great deal of fun.
We have something called the Sons of Confederate Veterans

Believe it or not, www.sportsmansguide.com has a LOT of GI surplus gear AS WELL as REPRO gear. Check out their MIL SURPLUS catalog on-line and request their FREE catalogs.

I'd suggest visiting your area Canadian Forces regimental museums for ideas on uniforms and accoutrements.  When I traveled extensively throughout Canada on assignment, I'd visit the Army regimental museums to see the unit history, uniforms and military displays.

As I recall, Edmonton, Calgary, and your local Winnipeg CFB locations have some of the best Canadian military museums.  Also, there are local militaria shops and collectors in Winnipeg.  I recall visiting one near the Winnipeg airport.  Check your monthly gun show newspapers and listings for contact info.

thanks john, i never thought of that. if the camerons have a regimental museum it'll be down at the armoury her in town, not sure if the south sask has one, since they where disbanded in the late 60's. i think i know the shop your talking about, but have never visited it
