Power Belt accuracy?
« on: November 02, 2006, 03:41:21 AM »
Anyone have much experience shooting Power Belts in a T/C or Knight. I know CVA promotes them heavily, but I've always shot sabots. (Hornady XTPs, Barnes MZs or T/C Shock Waves) These all shoot great, but are a pain to seat, especially in the Black Diamond. They seem to seat a lot easier in the Knight Bighorn. How do the Power Belts group and is terminal performance good?
Any comments would be appreciated.

My experience.

They shoot and load great, but their performance on game is undependable.

This has been well hashed out on many forums, you will get a wide range of opinions on thier performance.

You can buy replacement plastic sabots to ease loading. Harvester and MMP both offer easy-loading sabots. You can purchase the Harvesters doing a Google search -- or purchase the MMP HPH-24 or MMP 3 Petal EZ-load after asking for them specifically via a phone call. The phone number can be found at:

I shoot them exclusively in my G2 T/C 45. they are the only load I can reload a 3rd time with out cleaning the barrel. I have tryed T/C schoke waves and BENT the rod. same thing in the T/C Encore 45. as far as My 50cal I shoot 240XTP for the price I do shoot it alot more. My 12yr old Daughter shoots the G2 in 45cal. 190gr 75gr pellets with good accercay

CVA promotes them, but they are not very accurate in my Optima?

Can not psot on performance because my Encore will not shot them. I love how they load but can not get a group. Thus I have never hunted with them.

The season opens for me tomorrow 1st Sat. in Nov, as it has since I started muzzleloading hunting 5 years ago. 5 shots over the years. I don't know from fragmentation, disintegration, pass through, performance balistics, run off after shot. I guess some of the spent bullets were in some of the 5 gut piles. I did recover 1 bullet perfectly mushroomed in the far shoulder. I undrestand bad groups. I wouldn't have that either! I never cared about bullet mumbo jumbo. Shot placement. If I don't place the bullet behind the shoulder, then I don't expect the bullet to save my tail. 295 Powerbelts have been perfect for me. No deer has gone 5 yards!

I have tried all weights available in my Encore and couldn't get any decent groups no matter what weight or powder combination I tried.
They loaded very easily though.

My 295gr Powerbelt was not in today's buck gut pile. It was in the tree behind the pass through neck shot. 75 yards perfect accuracy. 90gr 777. New Winchester 777 209 primers. Conventional shotgun primers push load forward slightly before ignition on powerbelts. Thus the crud ring, and possible suspect accuracy!

That is good info!! If they get these 209 primers right, as it seams the 777 primers are working, the crud ring and accuracy should and seam to get better accordingly :)Jack.

The 295 gr. Powerbelts grouped good at 50 yrd's but the 300 gr. Shock Wave grouped better at a 100 yrd's. I use the crushed rib Harverster sabot with the Shock Wave and they load just about as easy as the Powerbelts!
