Need someone to make some grips
« on: March 06, 2012, 04:14:10 AM »
Is there any member here on GBO that is really good at making grips for Ruger SAs?
I have some really nice wood I would like to have made in to grips for a few of my Ruger SAs.
Some will be standard blackhawks and a couple are bisleys.
The wood I want to use is some book matched Hawaiian Curly Koa with outstanding color and figure.
This wood is somewhat hard to come by and as such, most of what I have is just barely large enough to make grips from.
Below is a few pics of some of it.
Use your imagination as to where and which direction the grips would be cut and see in your mind what a set would look like.
These are my top pieces, I have a few more.
I would be willing to trade a set or two of my extra wood in exchange for the work + maybe a little cash.
Let me know, both, if there is anyone making grips and what you think of the wood.

Thanks

Tom
Those pieces of wood are freakin great looking! Maybe you oughta contact the guy who did Greybeard's grips. He may work with ya.
Over on the Ruger Forum, there's a couple of grip makers on there right regular, too.

Private will use your grip materials as far as I know.  Good guy to work with.  I'm currently attempting to make my first set, so not a good choice for nice pieces like that!  ;)

Thanks TB.
I have a pair or two of his grips.
Not bad, just wish he would put a more polished finish on them.
I may contact him ans see what he thinks.
Talked to a man on Ruger Forums who says that what I have is a little thin but we are thinking of maybe backing it with its self to get the thickness he will need.
Have to see how much of each I have.
This stuff in this high of quality is so rare that it is almost impossible to find much thicker.
Most is cut thin for musical instruments and veneer.
Runs about $40.00 to $50.00 a board ft starting price.
Expensive stuff!!!

Swindler?  CLC?  Few good guys on that board making them.  ;)  Some are a little "over-opinionated" for lack of a better word.  hehe
