Best powder in Pro hunter .50 cal...help!!
« on: November 04, 2006, 05:05:07 PM »
I just purchased a t/c encore prohunter in camo thumbhole. I am wondering if anyone can throw a few powder/bullet combos at me to get started at the bench. Thanks in advance!!

I sure can, I have a 50 cal Pro-hunter myself. I have extremely good accuracy with 120 gr. of triple 7 loose powder with 250 gr. T/C Bonded Shockwave sabots and Remington Kleen bore primers. I get MOA at 100 yards with this load in my Pro-hunter.
I also have a standard Encore that I shoot 90 gr. of loose triple 7 powder with a 195 gr. DC duplex sabot and a 25 ACP with a small rifle primer. I also get MOA at 100 yards with this load.

thanks redhawk. I am going to the range right now and will try just that. Did you test that same load at 200?

I sure did. I am using the Nikon Omega scope with the BDC radical and I can consistently bust 4 inch clay targets at 200 yards. I had 2 to 2 1/2 inch groups at 200 yards, which I think is great for a muzzleloader.

Don't forget the large patches, Windex and bore brush for swabbing. Otherwise you may come back here with horror stories of getting the jag stuck down the bore using 777 for the first time in a T/C inline.

I don't need all that, I have shot my Encore's both the Pro-hunter and standard Encore 7 to 8 times before I need to swab the barrel.

I used 88 grains by weight (120 by volume) of 2f T7, under a 300 grain XTP MAG in a MMP HPH24 sabot. If you use this bullet, don't expect it to stay together when big bones are encountered. Through the slats they're fine, but I had one come unwound on a quartering-to shot.
