9.3 x 62 MM Factory Ammo. & Reloading ?
« on: October 31, 2006, 03:59:07 PM »
Hi Guys,

I just bought a new 9.3 x 62 MM rifle.  Why?  Because I didn't have one!  I use most of my rifles for range shooting and as a way to empty brass so I can reload it.  I bought some PRVI ammo. from Graf's which is inexpensive and I am told is very good, even for tough game.  I also, bought some Norma ammo. from Midway which I know is good and expensive.  I plan to reload these as soon as I build up some brass and I have 100 Speer 270 grain bullets on hand.  Aren't both those companies great?

Anyone know if you can buy RWS ammo. here in the US or is it still made?  I can't find any reference to it on the net.  I think they loaded it in this caliber at one time.  Any help would be appreciated.

Also, anyone have any pet loads for their 9.3?  I prefer accurate loads slightly below max. as I have always found them more pleasant and accurate.  The beauty of handloading is finding that "sweet spot" with your gun.  H414 seems to be the most recommended powder for highest velocity in this caliber which is one of the ones I don't have.  Any sources of reloading materials on the internet would also be appreciated.

Thanks,

Blowtorch

I have a .35 Whelen which is very similar to the 9.3x62.  I make a 280 grain paper patched bullet for it.  I found Reloader 15 is darn good.  And Reloader 19 ain't bad.  Several other people really swear by the RL-15.

49.5 grains of RL-15 and my 280 grain bullet is good and accurate.

60 grains of RL-19 is decent.  Both give about the same accuracy and same velocity.

51 grains of RL-15 is pretty potent with that same bullet and only a little less accurate.

60 grains of RL-15 and a Rem. 200 grn RN is awesomely accurate.  Velocity could be better - only 2660 fps.  I think it would improve with a heavier crimp.

I'm still in the process of finding a "pet" load.

R-15 is probably the most popular powder for 9.3.  I prefer Ramshot BigGame.  65gr of BigGame behind 286gr Nosler Partition shoots sub MOA at 2450fps in my CZ 550 American.

Thanks Blaque Jaque & Steve.  I'll try your recommendations.  I also have a .35 Whelen barrel for my Encore but haven't shot it yet.

250gr Hornady RN and varget,  225gr sierra and H322 for the whelen

270gr speer for practice with H414, and Re 15, and H4350 with 286gr partition.  I shoot mainly hodgdon powders due to thier temperature stability.
