45/70 Barrel Question

Have a T/C Contender 16 inch barrel in 45/70.  I want to mount an aimpoint on this thing.  I need advice from someone who has done this before.  First, I want to know if an Aimpoint will stand up to the punishment that this sucker gives out.  And second, any advice on which Aimpoint to put on there would be helpful.  This is my first post and I want you guys to know that I love this forum.  There is a lot of collective wisdom here.  Thanks in advance for the help.   Norm from Maine. :D

I have had a Tasco PDP 3 30mm red dot scope on an unported barrel in that caliber. It has stood up to the recoil without any problem. This would be the ticket for bear in the Pine Tree State. I was thinking of using that set up for bear over bait. You're not shooting more than 50 yards and many shots are getting close to dark.
