Marlin 336 - 35 Rem. sights
« on: October 29, 2006, 12:49:11 PM »
I`m looking for a good set of sights for my 35 Rem Lever action. I`ve got originals and since then i`ve put a set of ghost rings on it and don`t like them either.  I like the originals but quality is something their lacking because of the fuzz I get from old tired eyes.   I use my Rem. for hunting so something low light or easier to see will help. I`ve got a set of Marble sights on my Golden Boy and they work pretty good but would still like your opinions for a good set to hunt with.   No scopes please   ;D

          Thanks to all,

If you don't like the ghost rings, you might consider a Williams Foolproof. It's an aperture, peep, sight and the peeps are available in many different ODs and IDs.  Williams also makes the WDOS dovetail open sight. These slide into the existing dovetail and lock down with a set screw. They are available with different blade styles - square, V, U, or a shallow (express) V.  You might also consider replacing the front sight with one that has a fiber optic in it. These really show up in low light. Brownells carries a good selection.

One of mine wears the Williams peep rear and fire sights front. The other wears a 1.5-4.5 variable scope.

My 45-70 Guide Gun wears a Williams WGRS reciever sight and a Williams fiber optic front. I like the WGRS because it's a compact sight and you can change the size of the aperatures to suite your style. I'm color blind and red isn't my best color to see, so I called Williams Gun Sight Co. and told them my situation and they were more than happy to make me a front sight with the green fiber optic rod.
They are a GREAT company to do business with.
Good Shooting!

Keep looking, Peep sight (your choice) is the way to go, since you don`t want a scope.

The peep sight I have does have a fibre optic front sight. Maybe i`m just not getting it right. I should give it a chance before I decide to go another way.

I put a Williams FP and FireSight set-up on my 1895G, and absolutely love it.  I like the fact that you can remove the standard aperture to have a "ghost ring" for low-level light, or replace it with the Twilight apertures too (I am going to snag one of those on my next Midway order to try it out).  It beats the stock sight set-up hands down, IMHO.  The peep allows me to comfortably pull the rifle up, and concentrate only on the front sight and the target/animal; the standard leaf rear sight forces me to make a decision on what to focus on and thus slows me down.

The williams is the best bang for the buck. I like the lymans a little better though. for the front i like a black post. I tried fiber optic but just dont get a sharp enough sight picture for benching. there probably fine in the field though.
