Anyway, there is an article on pp.6-12 in Dave Scovill's Spotting Scope section, titled, "Winchester Tang Safety" that describes the problem and offers a fix. This will involve shortening the lower finger on the hammer strut. I won't elaborate more, because you need to read the article VERY carefully and assume full responsibility before making modifications to your rifle. I've made successful modifications to both my M1886 and 1895 now, but had to order parts and redo the M1895 because I didn't follow the instructions carefully enough. Good luck.
