Quick Release Scope Mounts
« on: October 30, 2006, 09:31:22 AM »
I have a Bushmaster Varminter with a 6-20x50mm Burris Fullfield scope.  What I was thinking of doing is getting a red dot scope and some of the quick release scope rings and mounts so that I could use the red dot scope for night hunting or any time I will be hunting in close quarters and use the Burris for everything else.  Anybody have any suggestions on brands or even if my idea will work?

I have settled on Warne rings.  Any good rail including Weaver will work for you.  I hunt mostly at night and use a Burris LRS and TruGlo.

How did I get over the hill without getting to the top?

Leupold QRW is what I pretty much use exclusively anymore----I have Warne and Talley systems---but after all the fiddlin' with them---I absolutely HATE vertical split rings.

I like how on all Leupold detachable systems ---the scope sits in a cradle and the ring cap goes on the top.

The vertical systems are like a Chinese puzzle----much to much work for something simple like attaching a scope.

I was wondering if Any quick release mounting system really holds zero,  I know from experience (sadly) that loose mounts are a killer.  so if it is critical to really have a tight mount wouldn't take off and put on be kind of hit or miss?
Anybody had experience?

I have a Nikon Prostaff in Leopold QR rings and mounts. It always returns to exact zero. It's on a T/C Omega, and I remove the scope a lot during ML season. Have only zeroed it once.
