briley sub guage tubes
« on: October 16, 2006, 04:24:26 PM »
I have a brn citori ultra sporter. I just bought some 28 ga briley full length tubes off of ebay. I was told that they were for a 30" bbl, which I have, but they are .5-.75 short of the muzzle, is this normal? Also they are loose in the muzzle end even w/ mod chokes in ( the tightest I have). Will this affect my poi? Will full chokes make them tight?, what about finding some o-rings to slid over the muzzle end of the tubes? The seller recomended sk or ic for the proper snugness. (he also had ultra sporter)

Yes they are supposed to be a wee bit shorter than the barrel. They normally come with a hammer and a punch kinda thing made of plastic of some sort to knock them in and out with. Or at least the tube set I had long ago did and most everyone using them has something similar.

Briley makes two types of tube sets basically. One is fitted to a specific barrel set and the other is supposed to be a generic fit for all. Which do you have? I've seen folks use some type of aluminum (Maybe) tape to fit the generic ones to their barrels. Yes it needs to be a snug fit.

Call Briley and talk with them. They will be happy to help you figure it all out and get them working properly for you.

Sounds like you got what you need then. I had the other type speicific to my barrels. I think all you need to do is find some of that tape they use and figure out how much to put where to make them fit your barrels. BUT yes I think I have also seen some o-rings in use as well. As I said call Briley and ask and they will fix you right up I'm sure.

I have the same tubes(called companion tubes) That I use in an Ultar XS and a GTI Both with 30" barrels. Yes the tubes are about 5/8" short, no harm here. Don't use O-rings at the choke end or you could damage the tubes. I tried to use teflon tape and it failed miserably. Use choke tubes that closely fit the tubes, even if you have to buy extras. My 28ga. tubes fit best with .040 constriction Hasting extended tubes. These come numbered with each higher # representing .004 const. The Hasting tubes are an improvement in preformance over the Brng Inv + tubes also, more even patterns accross the board. Midsouth has them at $22.00 ea.

borrowed some full factory tubes, going to try that, and black tape tomorrow. How do I deterrmine what the perfect constriction tubes would work, w/o trial and error?

New Wildcater,
Two words- Dial Caliper. Measure the tube and the choke tube and use the ones that are closest. You could damage the tubes with that tape, DON"T DO IT!!

I thought of the dial caliper, after I logged off, duh to me. I can't seem to find mine right now.
I inserted the OEM full chokes, and the briley's still rattled, so I put 1 wrap of black tape around the sub's, and they slide in, and out just as easy, and they don't rattle. I still haven't shot it, the local skeet club decided that it was too cold, wussy's, and didn't shoot tonight. Will I be ok with only 1 wrap of tape, because the rattle is annoying.

Again I say there is an ALUMINUM tape that is used for this purpose. I do not know about plastic tape. Might work, might not. Everyone with them uses the aluminum tape tho. Why do you not wanna call Briley? I've given you all the needed contact info and they will be happy to help you and answer your questions. They are the EXPERTS.

A common trick for snugging up the fitted tubes if they come loose is to use some finger nail polish. If they're not overly loose, you could try it for a cheap fix.
