I picked up my new 700 CDL yesterday. Mounted my new Zeiss Conquest 3-9X on it. Cleaned it. .243W caliber. I will use this rifle for deer hunting. I live in North Central Louisiana. It would be rare if shots over 3 hundred yards present in the areas I will hunt.
Trigger is just a tiny tad heavy, but not intolerable. Seems to break cleanly. I will most likely shoot first before I dig into it to make changes.
Now to get it to the range for break in and see how well she shoots. Stay tuned and I'll let you know how it does. It will be interesting to see if the quality is as good as they used to be or if it is as bad as some folks say. But, based on inspection, it is what I have come to expect from Remington over the years.
For folks that have one of the new CDL's, is it better to leave the pressure point in the fore-end or is it okay to free float? I have a HS precision varmint stock that I can drop it in to see if it shoots better free-floated. But, the fore-end of this stock is slimmer and lighter than my other 700 classic stocks (all of which I have free-floated) and I am concerned if deflection of the wood is going to be an issue. Comments and opinions are welcome.
