Pro-Hunter 30-06 loads....
« on: October 11, 2006, 09:46:45 AM »
Just curious if anyone out there is handloading for an Encore Pro-Hunter 30-06??

I just got my 30-06 PH barrel and was wondering what everyone is doing given it's 28" barrel length.

I loaded up some speer 150 gr spitzers with 52.5 gr of IMR 4320.  After I loaded them, started to think that maybe I coulda/shoulda used a slower powder like the IMR 4350 or 4831....  Given the lighter bullet, I'm thinkin the 4320 loads oughta shoot ok.  If I load up some 180 gr bullets, or even something that builds up more pressure like the Barnes triple shocks I'd prolly go with the 4350, or 4831....

Just curious as to what anyone is having good groups with, etc....

Thanks,

cj

Welp....

Went out & tested the 30-06 loads I'd made up.

Here's the first group of 5 shots.  Top left hole is the first shot from a VERY clean barrel.

Load:  Speer 150 gr spire point, 52.5 gr's of IMR4320, Win Brass, and CCI 200 lg rifle primers.

I need to go back and measure for C.O.L as I don't remember the exact length.....

This is a 100yd group.

Looks like a good group.

IF you don't count that "get the barrel dirty" shot (and I never count that one) you got a nice group of just over one inch.

Not too shabby!!

BTW...  C.O.L. for this is 3.220.....  Just in case anyone was wondering.

I don't have a chrony, but I'm guestimatin something a little over 3000 fps from the 28" pro-hunter barrel.  Friend of mine has one, so if I get the chance I may try and get a reading on them...

Yeah, I would be interested to see what loads chrono out of the 28" barrel...

Welp, found out on Sunday afternoon that these rounds work pretty well on Whitetailed deer too..... ;D

This guy dropped like a sack of taters.  I think he was dead before he hit the ground.....
