First archery kill...
« on: October 30, 2006, 06:00:46 AM »
I've been bowhunting for three years now, but the first two I didn't really go much. Last year I hunted hard and missed 4 times!!! Well this year I'm back at it and missed a doe on opening weekend. Yesterday, I got the opportunity to take the same shot I missed 2 weeks ago, and I mean the exact same shot, and nailed it!! The doe jumped and ran about 15 yards, then stood there for a little while, decided to lay down and eventually died. Double lung shot, clean pass through. It was great to get that first one down and will be looking forward to getting back in the woods soon!! BTW my hunting Buddy scored that morning as well!!!
Cheers,
R

Way to go redneckd1!!
The first bow kill is awesome!!
I shot my first "anything" with a bow last week and am overjoyed.  I don't care what anyone says, a bow kill of any kind is AWESOME!
Good shooting and many more down the road!!

Thx guys...it is a good feeling!! I saw two bucks this past Sunday, but no chance to draw the bow, one too far away and the other never offered a shot. Will be back in the woods this weekend!! Rifle season starts in two weeks, but I plan to continue to use my bow throughout the season, heck I may even become a bow and pistol only hunter!! I like the challenge of having to get in close!! Thx again!!
Cheers,

Congratulations redneck! I got my first bowkill this year too!  after 3 seasons, and several blown attempts, I double lunged a nice doe at twenty yards and she died within 30 yards.  I have been fortunate to kill some nice bucks with a gun, but I am every bit as proud of that bowkilled doe.  Im now a hopelessly addicted bowhunting addict.  Congratulations again.

Its the best, and the worst.  There have been times that Ive NEVER been so frustrated in my life.  I cant count the number of times Ive wanted to take my bow and wrap it around a tree........

Congratulations!!!

My first was 28 years ago, I was 16, it was the first day of archery season in NY. This is the first time I've gone big game hunting where I was actually hunting and not watching my dad. It was 7:30 am and my buddy and I are walking down a logging road, whispering and not really hunting. All of a sudden an 8 pointer walks across the road 30 yards in front of us. We both drew our bows and I let my arrow fly first. I got him with a perfect shot! Now I was using a Blackhawk 50lb compound. It was a beautiful bow, laminated wood, no sights, shooting fingers and fiberglass arrows.  Now 28 years later I get my 2nd deer with a bow. Back then I said, "what's so hard about this, guys?" Now I know. That first one was all luck or God or whatever. They don't come easy.

Hope you have many more stories to share about hunting!
