Slugs and chokes?
« on: November 12, 2006, 03:13:26 PM »
I have a TDC and when it is repaired I would like to try slugs. Would I be better off leaving the choke tube out or using what choke? I see some references to using an "improved"  choke with slugs. Why is this? ???
Thanks for your help!
Chris

I would definitely not shoot it with out the choke tube. Mod and up should work fine. A lot of folks report good results with mod chokes. Conventional wisdom says I.C. or improved cylinder is best for slug shooting. I used a 20 topper with a mod choke for my 1st couple deer and they were just as dead when all was said and done.
PROUD REDNECK CONSERVATIVE

I'd much rather be remembered for being a great shot than having the most expensive gun

Thanks for the information. I would have thought that an open tube would be the best.
