BOSS on a 338 Win Mag ??

I think I am convinced to buy the 338 Win Mag. in the Tikka T3 Hunter.They guy at the guns shop tells me a local gunsmith can put on a "BOSS" like brake on that gun for about $125 and that would take out a lot of the kick. Is that right?? Opinions please!

I know what a brake does but I'm pretty sure that the Boss isn't a brake. I have a brake on my 338 RUM and it helps alot on the bench but off the bench I take it off and put a screw protector on it. [ I had it made to use when I'm not useing my brake]

Hi,

     There are several places that offer a recoil reduction system.  All vent gases in such a way to reduce "felt" recoil and to some degree muzzle jump.  The fine tuning that the boss system from browning offers may not be part of their systems.  Williams Gunsite in Michigan offers a system similar to what you are talking about for a few dollars more, so 125 doesn't seem bad.  If you have a front site it will be moved in the process and relocated so if you want a change it might be a good time to do so as well.

All of the BOSS equiped rifles that I have seen also had a muzzle break. I have an older m77 all weather and befor I had a muzzle break installed the recoil was brutal, probably mostly due to that narrow plastic stock. After the instalation felt recoil is greatly reduced, but at a cost. The noise profile will change and it will seem alot louder especially for those beside you.
