On Playing Musical Scopes
« on: June 24, 2009, 08:12:11 AM »
FWIW, I wanted to use my Winchester FW Swede more this coming deer season, and so decided to remove the Leupold 2-7x33 that It's had on for the last few years, and install a Trijicon Safari low-powered variable with an adjustable-intensity, no-battery, illuminated post tip/reticle.

Here it is, with the "top down", to illuminate the reticle:

And this is the view through the illuminated reticle scope:

That right there Rangr44 is one nice specimen of American ingenuity, especially in the ultra fantastic Swede chambering. Beautiful! The scopes are pretty darn cool too.

Thanks - IMO, they're one of the nicest-styled factory rifles available.

When I tripped over it a few years ago, tagged just under $500 with the Leupy mounted, I jumped on it like a dog on a bone.

I found out why it was tagged so inexpensively (for what it was),  when I took it to my club for a range test - it was grossly inaccurate, with my best groups running over 6" @ 100yds.
Most groups were larger.  Much larger.

An investigation (when I took it apart) showed that someone, who only THOUGHT they knew what they were doing (but didn't), had glass-bedded it - in the wrong manner, with NO clearance(s) in the front/sides/bottom of the recoil lug and rear of the tang.

After I corrected that, it shoots 3-shot groups ranging from 3/4"-1" @ 100yds, every time, with factory Norma 156gr SP's.

It is a keeper, now.
